This is me napping after my busy weekend

My friend, Gina, picked me up Friday afternoon to go to her house for Easter weekend. Their was a new addition to her family, Leroy. Oh boy did we hit it off. He is now one of my best friends. I am so glad that he liked me. I was real worried he wouldn’t want to be my friend, but he proved me wrong. We are both really pooped after our busy weekend of playing and finding Easter eggs together that I had to nap all day today. (Shawna helped me dictate this blog, -thanks Shawna-).

Although this looks DELICIOUS, I am NOT going to eat this and I advise the same for all other animals!!!

I hope everyone had a good Easter holiday. Remember… Easter baskets though pretty and full of yummy treats contain many candies that are toxic to dogs and cats. For example Xylitol, a common sweetener used in candy and gum, will cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and liver damage in dogs. I think that a lot of people know chocolate can be toxic. There are several reasons it is toxic which I don’t think a lot of you know. The high fat content can cause pancreatitis, theobromine can cause tremors and seizures, and the caffeine can cause cardiac (heart) arrhythmia. The darker the chocolate (ie;unsweetened cocoa powder vs. milk chocolate) the more toxic. So if your pet ingests any of these delicious treats you should seek veterinary care immediately and Dr. Dallas will know just what to do. Have a good week everyone.

I was reading this magazine I receive monthly from our distributor, Webster Veterinary, and they are running a contest for the best picture of a pet to be featured on their next PetPix page. Now I don’t want to sound full of myself, but don’t you think I’m pretty photogenic? Not only to mention my striking good looks. YAH - GO - GO - GO ZAGS!!!

 Well, I sure hope some of you are college basketball fans out there! I have been busy trying to keep up with all the teams that made “The Dance”. My favorite team is the Gonzaga Bulldogs or more commonly known as the ZAGS! Everyone has their bracket up here at the “a” street animal clinic including President Obama! I am writing him a letter because he didn’t even pick the Zags to win the first round. I am hoping to turn him into a big fan! It is a lot of fun cheering for all the teams and watching all their fancy moves on the court.

I hope everyone has a great month and enjoys March Madness as much as I do.

I'm having a great time!!!

Hi Fans!!

March first was a big day for me; it was my birthday! I’m 2 years old now. My friends at the “a” street animal clinic had a little party planned. They brought coffee, milk, bagels WITH cream cheese (YUM), party mix, catnip, and PRESENTS!

I didn’t have much time to party because we were really busy and I had several patients to take care of in the back. I didn’t mind cutting my party short because I do love my job!

Thanks to all of my friends who have stopped in and sent me cards, I sure do appreciate all your good wishes.

My first real present

This year was my first time to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I recently began dating this beautiful dilute calico named Eleanor. I met her through one of the other girls I work with. She is a little older than me, but Dr.Dallas told me that age shouldn’t matter if I really like her.

Before I did anything I had to take a  long nap with Monkey and Chicken so I could be well rested to impress Eleanor

We began our evening by catching the classic flick “Lady and the Tramp”. The movie was good, but we thought it would be so much better if the lead actors were cats instead of dogs. I had to taste the batter...Yum!

My friend, Cora, called me this morning and said she was going to stop by for some milk and biscuits on her afternoon walk. You’ll be very proud of me because I decided to make the biscuits rather than buy them this time.  I tried these recipes on some of my other friends, Emma and Jake, and they loved it.

I asked Dr. Dallas to do the hard parts - Thanks Man!

One thing I learned while I was baking is that you have to pay attention! I burnt the first batch because I fell asleep and forgot to set the timer! Shawna wasn’t very happy with me when she heard the screeching sound from the smoke alarm. My second batch went better, but I had to enlist the help of Dr. Dallas for stirring the bowl.

Let me know how you like these. I am working on another recipe and once I get it perfected I will post it!

Mo’s Veggie Thins Dog Biscuit Treats

Ingredients:

• 1 1/4 cups flour
• 1/4 cup dry milk powder
• 2 tablespoons dry milk powder (+ more)
• 1 vegetable cube or packet
• 1/4 cup boiling water
• 2 tablespoons boiling water (+more)
• 1/4 cup safflower oil
• 1 teaspoon brown sugar (not packed)
• 1/4 cup carrots, shredded or ground
• 1/2 egg or egg substitute
• additional flour for dusting

At one point I had to have Monkey give me a hand

Instructions:

• Preheat oven to 300 F
• Dissolve veggie cube or packet in the boiling water. Mix dry ingredients together; mix wet ingredients separately, except egg. Pour wet ingredients into dry; mix lightly. Add a well in the center and add egg. Mix.
• Place dough on a lightly floured surface, sprinkle a little flour on top. Roll out to not more than 1/8″. To avoid dough sticking to rolling pin, sprinkle a little flour on top of dough. The key is not to use too much flour (they will puff up otherwise).
• Cut out shapes with cookie cutter.
• Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 15 minutes. Turn them over and bake another 10 minutes.
• Cool on wire racks. Store in an airtight container. Enjoy

Cheesy Dog Bones

Ingredients:

• 2 cups unsifted all-purpose flour
• 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese
• 1/2 cup vegetable oil
• 4-5 tablespoons water

Instructions:

• Preheat oven to 400 F
• Make a cardboard cut out of a dog bone or use cookie cutter of choice.
• Combine flour, cheese, and vegetable oil in a food processor. Cover and whirl until mixture is a consistency of coarse meal. With machine running slowly add water until mixture forms a ball.
• Roll out dough to approximately 1/8″ and cut into desired shapes.
•  Bake at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Store in an airtight container. Enjoy

I'm rockin this hat!!

Well I didn’t make it to midnight on New Year’s Eve but I stayed festive and sported my new hat! I had a crazy night full of treats, wine, toys, and goldfish crackers !

I thought I might go with the traditional New Year’s Resolution and work on loosing a few ounces but then I decided everyone picks that so I made a list of resolutions that are things I need to work on and would like your help in deciding which ones I should pick…

1. Spend less time in the bathroom getting ready in the morning
2. Do more sit-ups and work on strengthening my core (I’m getting a little waist-waddle)
3. Keep my nails short and manicured at all times
4. Come when called and not ignore my bosses when they want me
5. Eat all of my CET Chew and not just the yummiest part (I need to work on better dental health since I can’t brush my teeth)

I hope everyone has a good 2012 and remember to schedule your pet’s annual wellness exam this year with Dr. Dallas. We hope to see you at “a” street animal clinic soon.
